L’Ecole de Choix: “The School of Choice”
The buildings are designed to be sturdy, sustainable, environmentally aware and within the Haitian vernacular. Natural ventilation keeps the classrooms comfortable. Locally woven “windows” keep direct sun out and let fresh air in. Lightweight steel-truss roofs allow hot air out the ridge and the end-panels. The repetitive 3-classroom-module cluster is replicable on other sites and terrains for other school programs. MDM coordinated work with Studio Drum Collaborative a Haiti based architecture firm who developed details, documents, and day-to day on site observation. Malcolm has traveled to Haiti over 20 times.
